The Annual Professional Performance Review (APPR) process at Penn Yan Central School district is designed to encourage the continuous growth of all educators as reflective self-directed professionals. This process was developed through collaboration among all district educators and then extensively piloted to provide both rigor and flexibility. Because the focus is on personal professional growth, it is important to assess not only teaching effectiveness but the ability to self-reflect and improve ones’ own practice independently. Ongoing data collection, feedback, and coaching are integral components of the collaborative relationships between teachers and administrators.
